Good News

Calla's health really made the turn for the better last night and this morning. Last night she started having lime green colored poop when I would change her diaper and the nurses thought she might be getting rotavirus (I guess that sometimes goes hand in hand with RSV, I can't imagine it) and wanted me to just keep an eye on it. Well, I think it must have been the last of the toxins trying work their way out of her little body because today she is breathing better (no more collapsing of her chest when she breathes), her nose isn't as plugged up and she's starting to act like she used to! Yay!!!! So after the doctor was in this morning he said we'd probably go home tomorrow, he took her off the steroid that was keeping her airway open, reduced her breathing treatments to every 6 hours instead of every 4 hours, gave her a high powered dose of iv antibiotics this morning and then locked her iv out so that she could try and stay hydrated on mommy's milk instead of the saline, they plan on giving her one more iv antibiotic dose in the morning so we have some stuff to go home on and then probably repeat a chest xray tomorrow and go home in the afternoon. Please Lord let us be home by nap time tomorrow afternoon so I can lay down and take a nap with her. I'm so thankful to all of you who have been praying for her, she's definitely starting to get better!

update on Calla

It's Wednesday March 26th and Calla is still in the hospital. According to her chest xray she has pneumonia and has had it since Saturday but no one ever informed us of that. She seems to be doing better and is awake more and more and is starting to cough some stuff up except when she does that she also throws up everything she's eaten. I'm starting to get frustrated by the nurses however, we've been here so long that now they are starting to kind of ignore us. I asked them to change her board that is strapped to the arm with the iv in it and right now that was 2 hours and 15 minutes ago and no one has been in since and she's now asleep which means they won't do it. No one has been in to see if she has had a diaper change (they have to weigh them) and I've changed her twice. I know I need to be an advocate for her and get her the best care possible but I'm trying and no one is listening to me. I almost feel abandoned and it's really starting to piss me off.

Easter 2008

So because of Calla's hospitalization my father the wonderful man that he is, took Trent to his house on Thursday night and he's there until Calla comes home from the hospital. This was such a relief to me to not have to worry about where he was going to go at night and who was going to pick him up from daycare and where his clothes were and all of that. Thank you Dad, you don't even know how much that means to me! Well according to Dad, Trent's having a great time being spoiled rotten by everyone that encounters him in Cedar Falls. I was really worried about how Easter would go since I had all these great plans of having an easter egg hunt at home and now I couldn't do all of that. Well, Grandma and Grandpa definitely pulled through for me on this one. They set up an easter egg hunt at their house for Trent and got him a basket and some new toys. He enjoyed himself immensely and told me on the phone that he got a new "bunny", "elmo" and "truck" between bites of jelly beans and chocolate eggs. I'm glad he had fun although I missed him soooo much. And everytime I hear him say "hi mommy" over speakerphone my heart aches just a little bit more.

And Calla spent her first Easter in the hospital but at least the Easter Bunny didn't forget her too. Here she is yesterday with her first dolly. Both Trent and Calla have baskets at home and at their other grandma and grandpa's, I guess we'll celebrate when we're all home.

Calla's still in the hospital

So it's Saturday morning and Calla's still in the hospital. No sign of pneumonia in her chest xray from yesterday but last night was definitely a pretty bad night. She was up every 1 to 1 1/2 hours coughing and when she coughs her whole body shakes and she wakes herself up and can't go back to sleep. The doctor was here this morning but is coming back at noon time to listen to her breathe again. I guess then we'll know if we'll be celebrating Easter in the hospital or secluded at home.

More pics

Here are some more pictures of Trent and Calla from their recent photo shoot at Sears. They are Trent's 2 year pictures and Calla's 2 month pictures.

Update

So I know I haven't posted in a while and I thought I would just add some pictures of the kids playing and the latest events in our lives. Just trying to keep my spirits up as Calla is in the hospital.

Calla's in the hospital

So Calla was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday for RSV or respitory syncitial virus. She is having a hard time breathing and is coughing a lot. They have her on IV's, a steroid and breathing treatments to help her get better. Not sure when they are going to let her go home but we're hanging in there.

Grandpa Steve

Grandpa Steve loves his grandbabies! It's just such a shame we don't get to see him that often. Here is a pic of Trent and Calla with Grandpa Steve on the day that we left his house last week. They all look so happy!

Calla's one month pics

Here are Calla's one month pictures. It was her first photo shoot and I think she did an amazing job!
