Calla's 4 month checkup

Calla had her 4 month checkup today. She is doing well although we did find out she has a slight ear infection in her right ear. But she was giggling and happy at the doctors office today. She also got 4 shots and her rotovirus vaccine. She weighs 14 lbs 8 oz and that puts her in the 50th percentile for weight, she is 24.5 inches long and that puts her in the 25th percentile for height and her head measured 15.5 inches and that puts her in the 5th percentile for head circumfrence. So all in all she's about average but it's quite a change of pace for me.... thinking back Trent was always in the 97th percentile in everything!

Speech Therapy

Trent had his first official speech therapy session today. And it went surprisingly well, they worked on animal sounds and Trent knew some of them and even did them the right way. (Apparently there is a right way and a wrong way to say moo) He did so well that Shirley (his thearpist) gave him 1 gummy bear when he was done. And that was the end of Trent being good. For anyone who knows my son, knows that he is not content with just 1 of anything. Especially candy. So he threw a big temper tantrum in the hallway and I had to carry him out of there. He was all better when he got to the car but he almost looked tired, like his brain had been working so hard that it physically made him tired. I guess I'll find out later if it made him tired enough to take a good nap at daycare. Tomorrow is another session, hopefully he remembers everything he learned today and we can work on some of the signs we learned today at home tonight.

Trent

For the past few months we have noticed that Trent hasn't been speaking as well as some of his peers and just as with walking Brian and I thought that he'd eventually come around and catch up. After many doctor's visits, we've determined a few things: Trent has a hearing problem that should be able to be corrected by tubes (We'll find out more on the 16th), He is developmentally behind by about a year, and definitely needs some speech therapy. So tomorrow begins our adventure into helping him learn to speak. He is going to start speech therapy twice a week and I really like his therapist. She's willing to give me tips and pointers to do at home and things I can share with our family and friends so that we're all helping him learn how to speak. He could need some occupational therapy as well and we'll explore that option when we get to it but for right now we are just doing one thing at at time and taking each day as it comes.
